Cineplexity Officially at the Wisconsin Film Festival
It's official!

The Official World Premier Rollout of Cineplexity will be an official event at the Wisconsin Film Festival!

The full festival schedule gets announced tomorrow (Wednesday), but we'll be running the Cineplexity Premier at 2:30 pm, Saturday, April 1 (no foolin'), at the State Street Steep & Brew, one of many Film Festival locations.

I believe this is the first time a game's ever been launched at a film festival before, which makes it kinda cool. Also kewl, [info]princeofcairo won't be there, to kick my butt at the game. Heh.

(Though it will be a few months before the game is actually IN stores, that's OK. It'll be a few months before some of these films are in theaters, so it fits in well with the spirit of Film Festivals everywhere!)

Many folks know how excited I am by this game. Seeing the final prototypes come just builds on that (the tagline on the box pictured below is one of the last changes we'll be making: the new tagline is the smoother, better and more inclusive: "The Party Game Where Movie Lovers Connect")

Now if I could just get invited to Sundance...

Grin...

Here's the announcement of the event, as it will appear in the Festival Event Program:

CINEPLEXITY
The World Premiere of the New Movie Game From the Makers of "Apples to Apples"

Be a part of the launch of "Cineplexity," the critically acclaimed, exciting new movie game from Wisconsin's own Out of the Box Publishing, the fastest-growing games company in America (www.otb-games.com). Steep & Brew is hosting a fun, open-to-all game demo where you can play and win prizes!

Cards containing two movie elements are played ("Features a Character in Uniform" and "Takes Place over the Holidays," for example), and the first person to shout out the name of any movie containing both elements scores a point! Fast, fresh, and hilarious, "Cineplexity" (in stores later this year) does for movie games what Out of the Box's multimillion-selling "Apples to Apples" did for party games.

Five to twelve people can play at any time, and casual movie fans can hold their own alongside hardcore cinephiles. There will be plenty of prizes, as well as treasure trove of games for the grand-prize winner! Meet the creators and play the first movie game that's more than trivial! Connect with other movie lovers at this one-of-a-kind world premiere event!

If I make up a movie, and insist that it's real, do I still get a point if noone is SURE that the movie doesn't exist? You could get a lot of mileage making up anime or bad porn* for instance... ;)

*yeah, I know, you're asking yourself: is there a difference between the two?

Anime and bad porn are allowed, but the Director (the person dealing - much like the judge in Apples to Apples) of the round gets final say.

We're encouraging people to play with either a good movie reference guide, or access to IMDB, handy.

Most often, this is just not needed, though. As a group game, you'd be surprised at the conversations and quick consensuses that are reached as to whether an answer is legit or not.

This actually provides a lot of the laughter in the game. Kind of like the discussions that take place after an Apples to Apples round.

Heh, fair enough. I doubt I'd be very good at this game unless you included a lot of allusions to Mel Brooks and Monty Python movies, but I'm sure I can at least keep the real contenders entertained. :)

I came second in a game using mostly Superman, Batman movies, plus "The Passion of the Christ," with nine ccards won. I lost to a semi-movie buff, but only just. Another movie buff came in last with three.

You'd be shocked how well most people can do at this game!

Somehow I'm guessing you might be able to get your hands on an early copy...
You should give your Dr. Blink co-conspiritors an advance copy 'cuz then I can just sneak into the Asylum and steal it! hee hee!

On an almost completely unrelated note,

Are you going to Itzacon? The pirate convention in Galway, on from the 10th-12th of March? Their website is here. Looks really good.

No cons for me at ALL this year, I fear. The earliest will be Dragon Meet in London in December...

I need the year off to organize things, get ahead on work and prepare for Louisa's arrival...

Hi! John,
I love Dork Tower it reflects so much of my life as a staff of a game con. Also, I am a great fan of your Munchkin arts. It's way too hilarious. My personal favs are Katrina, Gaze-bo and Flaming Armor.
