Muskrat Ramblings for Now People

March 21st, 2007

You, sir, have a responsibility to give me something for nothing, no matter WHAT'S up with your life @ 10:52 pm

This is an automatic message from Dork Tower to submit some comments.

Comments: I just thought I'd let you know that I am deleting my Dork Tower bookmark, never to return.

I realize you are a "big guy" in the industry, now. Sure, you're busy--guess what? We all are.

But there's a certain... I dunno... responsibility that comes when you purportedly deliver a web comic on a regular basis, in particular if you accept ad revenue from page views of it.
(John's note: I DO?)

It has taken you a week to update your web comic. A week. I have given you, now, six page views for nothing. I will not give you another.

people are jerks.

'scuse me while I go find a nice quiet cave to hide in for the rest of my life. :\

Sorry you get nastygrams like that, Mr. K. There are those of us out here who appreciate the web comics you post for free and the smiles they bring when you have time to share.

As long as you write faster than George RR Martin, I'm not terribly annoyed.

Anytime someone is a dramallama or a dick for no real reason, my response is always the same...

Beat them with sticks.

I'll watch. And possibly take photographs. And then maybe even make commemorative plates. Everyone likes commemorative plates.

in other words:

"You are not giving me something I want for free, screw you!"

now unlike some cartoonists, you have more of a job then just drawing regular comic strips. So anyone who gets nerfed off because you are trying to make deadlines for $$ and cannot regularly update something that has become more of a hobby. They don't have the right to part of the Army of Dorkness.

Just think.. you could be dead and nothing would be showing up but repeats

*evil grin*

""You are not giving me something I want for free, screw you!"

Back when my font site was running and I was manufacturing fonts at an insane rate, I used to get emails from people expecting me to give them the commercial fonts for free. Why? "Well, you give all your other fonts away! And I just can't afford $20!"

*sigh*

People generally suck ass, and I cannot believe I'm going to go back to exposing myself to that.

(And John, I still owe you that hand lettering font.)

The last occasional update of Waiting for Bob was FIVE YEARS AGO. The last update that took place within the continuity was two years before that. This guy SO doesn't have any room to bitch.

Yeah, while we're on the topic, I really don't think you update your LJ often enough, John. If I don't see more frequent posts in the next few days, I may have to drop you from my friends list...

Yes, that's logical. We all know the advertisers want to go broke from umpteen-hundred people viewing a page that their ads happen to be on. Nevermind the fact that page views cost bandwidth, which in turn cost money.

Someone needs to learn how the internets work, methinks.

I assume he thinks all those wee little ads are actually profit making for you, without noticing that they're mostly....well, for you, and for web comics that could use a push from your high profiley-ness.

I prepared a neat, concise comment on what was wrong with the guy's problem. Then LJ ate it. So here's my summary of it:

TOOL. TOOL TOOLY TOOL. THAT MAN IS A TOOL.

And heck, just cause it feels good. He's a tool!

I like how people whine and groan about how webcartoonists miss a date or something. PVP has run a day late each day for a while now, and El Goonish Shive, one of my favorite webcomics, gets constantly delayed. Even Sentimental Horde has been delayed for a bit (although that artist is seriously considering dropping it.) Know what I say?

You do your best man. You're a great artist, comic, writer, and all round guy. I love reading your stuff, and if it takes you a while to deliver quality stuff then I don't mind. I prefer quality over quantity any day. :)

I feel a little closer to you today. Of course, I'm also twitching from memories of the TSR/WotC interregnum and all those angry phone calls we couldn't answer properly because management kept lying to us.

Whenever we both get back to Gen Con, buy me three martinis and I'll tell you about the kid who accused us of subliminal swastikas.

That's why I have you on my Flist. When something shows up, life is good. I get a laugh. When I need a laugh and you're not here, I go to your website. Which is funny too. Life is good.
And we have so much Munchkin stuff in the house, I know I help support you. We're also gonna buy Apples to Apples. It's real popular in our group.
You are a dangerously addicting man.
That's his problem, WITHDRAWAL. And he's angry about it.
I think I'll just go read some more old stuff on your website.
Have a Nice Day!

Dear John, I have been a devoted reader of your strip for some time now. As such I feel you owe it to me to name at LEAST one major, recurring character after me in the strip or I will stop reading it . Also, my cat just did something disgusting on the rug and if you wish to keep me as a "customer" I strongly suggest you get over here and clean it up posthaste and since you're coming out this way anyway would it kill you to stop at the store and grab me another couple cans of the industrial grade solvent whose fumes I have CLEARLY been huffing since before Jesus rode a Big Wheel? As you can tell by the content of this letter, I have already run through the six-pack of the stuff that I bought at lunchtime yesterday. The walls have stopped breathing, the dog is no longer chanting at me and I'm starting to freak out a little bit. So get to hopping Mr Cartoon Man! ;)

Seriously man, that nitwit is/was/will be a douche' . Keep up the good work and smeg the smegging smegger
Best,
Bob

And on the plus side, being quoted in metaquotes is probably going to lead more than just one person here who is looking for a new webcomic anyway.

I can only guarantee the one, though. :>
