Minneapolis foodies!

What are the cool places to hit in the Twin Cities?

I'm gonna have to return to Matt's Bar for a Juicy Lucy at some point. And there was an amazing Indian restaurant in a strip mall close by the con (I've forgotten the name, but WOW, was it good - is it still around?).

What other special haunts are there in the Cities, food-wise?

****

Good news - I'll be bringing prototypes of two new games Out of the Box - "Ninja versus Ninja" (yaaaay!) and "LOL!"

"LOL!" is a party game I designed that I'm terrifically happy about. It will be released by Out of the Box in 2009, and the playtests have been a dream. Folks really seem to love it. It's been a far happier experience than when I designed the Whad'ya Know home game...

I'll most likely be playing some in the Autograph area, as Chewbacca signs, and I look sadly around for people to love me...

****

Guess what? ANOTHER!

Of COURSE cartoonists are gonna keep running lame, easy gags

.

..if Editors keep proclaiming them "Cartoons of the Week."

I got seven words right here for you, buddy!

****

There are 1,931 folks on LJ who have "Friended" this blog.

I'd like to do something for the person who becomes #2,000, but it doesn't seem as if there's any way to tell who that is...I don't see a way to sort friends by date added...

(Additionally, there are 5,261-ish folks on LJ alone who subscribe to the Dork Tower Syndicated Feed. So it'll be a while before we hit another milestone THERE...)

Hacky?
Missed the point of Carlin in two important ways?
Does that bit where they write the guy's name on his shirt because the art is bad enough that he figures he has to spell it out?
And late?

This is a monstrously awful cartoon.

AND labels Heaven "Heaven," as my friend Paul Berge pointed out.

BUT IT'S A CARTOON OF THE WEEK!

Some of my current Minneapolis food favorites:
b*wiched (sandwiches, near downtown)
Oceanaire ($$$$ seafood, downtown)
Stella Fish Cafe (seafood, uptown)
Tea Garden (teas, bubble teas, Hennepin near uptown)
Hell's Kitchen (breakfast & lunch, try the porridge, downtown)

All I can say is Eddington's. (Best breadsticks ever. Pretty darn good soup, sandwiches, wraps, and salad, too... but the breadsticks are killer.) Only thing that sucks is that Eddington's isn't open on Sundays. :(

How long will you be in the Cities? A group of us are going to Psycho Suzi's Motor Lounge on Monday for lunch.

Yes, I'm aware that Dork Tower is a cartoon and should not be taken seriously.

But really, for any gaming group I've ever been in, Igor would have been toast by now. :)

Sedonded for Eddingtons. And I'll send Trisha around to tell great big lies about how much she loves you. She'd probably punch me if I didn't introduce you to her. Our friendship actually started when she came to my job and asked me about Munchkin. Now our weird little clan os Godsparenting her kid. Nice one John, thats another innocent child you've warped you fiend :)

That political cartoonist must have never listened to Carlin, like, ever. Even if Carlin believed in the afterlife, he sure as f*** wouldn't want to go to heaven. If anything, he'd want to go to a garage in Buffalo.

The Indian place was still open this past Easter weekend. Ah - it's Chapati, 7078 Amundson, Edina. Looks like it's still open. At last report, it was Lois McMaster Bujold's favorite Indian restaurant.

If you like dim sum, check out Jun Bo at I-494 & Nicollet Ave.

Yes, I can definitely second the recommendation of Jun Bo. Just ate there less than a week ago, in fact. (And Jun Bo is also Paul & Storm approved.)

Third vote for Eddington's. Two other places where I enjoy eating when I'm in the Cities are Khan's and Davanni's. Khan's doesn't appear to have a web site, but a quick search turns up both of their locations.

You know, the only thing that bugs me about all those Carlin in Heaven cartoons, it I am pretty sure you could say those words up there, and probably far worser, too.

Have a raffle. When you reah 2,000 pull one or more names at random from your friend's list and then ask them to send you a picture of themselves and you can do a cartoon commemorating your 2,000 fans.

A foodie friend of mine recommended Redstone Grill(in Eden Prairie, a few miles west of MotA) when I was last up there for the Minne Ren Faire 2 years ago. I was favorably impressed. The jerk chicken fondue starter was great. All the entrees my group tried were awesome. Give it a shot if you can.

Eddington's is about as fascinating as a gussied-up Mike's Subs. It's a local chain thingie that does good for the quick lunch, but is nothing special.

So let me counter with a few sweet places:
- Blue Nile. Right near I-94 - great place to eat with 6-8 people sharing injeera, goat, lentils, pork, and all manners of other African stews. The bar there is run by a huge beer geek who keeps an RSS feed of his on-tap beers for the locals. Dead at 6pm, hopping with jazz and world music late into the night. Khan's may have tradition on its side in the s/f crowd, but Blue Nile makes up for it with good beer and a food-sharing environment.

- Scott Ja-Mama's BBQ. Little more than a hole in the wall, Scott's is home to the best barbecue pork sandwich in the Cities. Buy it with a cheap twice-baked potato. it's worth a very short trip up 35-W from the site of the Con. Mostly takeaway, but there are a few places to sit.

- Town Hall Brewing. It's not the best brewpub in the Cities (that's reserved for Barley John's - eight miles north), but they make scotch and IPA real ale, pulled from casks into your waiting pint glass. Food is just fine, but the beer is worth checking out. At the very northern tip of 35-W before you hit bridge construction.

If they wanted to riff off on the Seven Words thing, why not have something about how in Heaven, they've got different seven words... show a scroll with the seven mortal sins listed, or something. I would have thought that to be an obvious take...

If you offer rewards for being #2000, your friends might go down, as current friends unsubscribe in order to be able to resubscribe at just the right time in order to get some goodies. (After all, they're your loyal readers and all, I'm sure they feel the desire for goodies strongly.)

So then a bunch unsubscribe, all waiting until the number gets back up really near 2000, all waiting, waiting, waiting for it to go back up again, before they resubscribe... if enough people do it, it could be a very long wait indeed.
