99 Luftballons - Nena

"Everyone's a Captain Kirk..."

I remember my mom spun that album endlessly. I used to be able to sing in German too (horribly, I'm sure).

I thought is was Hüsker Dü. ;-)

And wow, I haven't thought about Big Audio Dynamite in a long time. I need to dig up some of their stuff on CD (I used to have a tape of one of their albums back in the late '80's).

Wow, that's high school and college, right there. I need to make sure I have every single one of those tracks in my iTunes...

Wow! Someone else in the world listens to Marillion. I thought I was the only one. I love the song Kayleigh. My other favorite by them was Lavenders Blue.

Whisper to a Scream.... man, you are taking me back.

I'm (now) more an H-era fan (but only 'cause I've been hearing the Fish era stuff for 20 years, and i do still like Fish solo and catch 'em all when they come to the states).

but for the rest of that playlist? pick up a Sirius XM radio and tune it to "First Wave", 'cause they almost all are on their normal rotations.

granted, "One of our Submarines" is a bit rarer than Science or Hyperactive, but it's a GREAT song. on the same topic, my father really likes "Life in Dark Water" from Al Stewart.

HAH! "Time Passages" was the Al Stewart album that got me addicted.

The 80s were a pretty dire time for Al, but the 90s saw some terrific releases...

Marillion was one of my favorite bands, back in the day. I still have most of their albums in my CD collection.

Well, with an original name like (sil)marillion, how could they not be on anybodys list :-)

Grendel would be on of my desert island discs every time!

Has the guitar intro to "Every word means no" bouncing around in my head now.

Well, I suppose there are far worse things to have bouncing around up there!

Like the guitar from "Cath," for example - a far lesser song, but one that brings back memories nevertheless...

"Every Word Means No," to me, is one of the great lost songs of the 80s. Few people seem to know it.

Well, aside from REM and the B-52's, the entire little Athens scene is forgotten.

Guadalcanal Diary has fallen by the wayside as well.

Got to see them on the Walking in the Shadow of the Big Man tour. Hell, had the vinyl from the db pressing before they went up to (was it Electra?)

May Watusi Rodeo make it onto your playlist, and Trail of Tears as well!

Yeah, the only dB's song still in my collection is Spy in the House of Love

Of course, what drives me nuts now is hearing the term "80's music.' It makes me want to quote X's I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts. I don't know who was listening to the songs that now fit that general category, but it certainly wasn't anybody I knew. Well, maybe a few of our parents...
